Life is simple…..until August

I am always behind on this blogging thing, and I know my legions of readers can attest to that. However, I hope to be better about keeping up with it….for a while. When the third Harvey kid arrives in August, this may have to fall by the wayside for a few months (give or take 18 years). I hate to disappoint my faithful internet following. You three will just have to call to see what’s up. Aaaaaaanyhoooo….here are some pictures of the boys and their shenanigans. Stay tuned for a post on Zach and Daddy “camping” in the backyard.

Those of you who know our son Zach know that he is a very unique little boy. He imagination is without limits and his curiosity puts a certain monkey to shame. Ever since he was very little, he has been somewhat obsessive compulsive. I have taken the liberty of creating a slideshow montage of some of his creations over the years. Please enjoy and feel free to assess and/or analyze.

I don’t know about other people’s kids, but our two boys are super energetic and rarely sit still for 30 seconds. Many of my pictures come out blurry because they can’t even smile without moving, shaking, twitching, bouncing, jumping, etc. Anyway, I have been able to capture a couple of “still” moments lately. Enjoy.

[gallery link="file"]Well, yesterday was quite the day for the boys and me. Just as we were getting ready to head out the door to see Lance Armstrong and the Amgen tour ride through our town, Tyler fell and cut his eye. It looked worse than it was and he was pretty tough about it. Of course, as I am consoling him the other kid is jumping up and down trying to show me some toy he made. Being a mom is really a tricky thing sometimes. Anyhoo….we saw the race go by (after an hour and a half of waiting/entertaining the kids) and it was really exciting. Zach loved it and has been talking about it non-stop (literally). I am not a good photographer at all, but here are a few snapshots of the day.

Life with Zach is never dull. At least once a day I come upon something that I know was Zach’s handiwork. He doesn’t tell you about it, he just places something somewhere or builds something out of odd things and then leaves it to be discovered later. He has been doing this since he was really little. It is hilarious and I always take pictures to document his weirdness. I will try to gather up some other photos and do a post on what we call “Zach’s creations.” Here is what I came upon most recently. I was telling Tyler to stop opening the bookcase door and I caught something out of the corner of my eye. See if you can tell what it is from this picture.

Of course! Why wouldn’t one shove a plastic dinosaur into the bookcase? It makes perfect sense!

Later the same day, I found him looking like this:

When I asked him why he put stickers all over his body, he said, “Because I was cold and they keep me warm.” Der. I thought the pant legs provided warmth. Silly mom. It may also have been that he learned about Naaman the day before and how he had leprosy and had to wash seven times to get the spots off. Yeah, that’s what I’ll tell myself.

Recent/not so recent stuff

So, a few weeks ago I took the boys down to Beaumont to do our sometimes-annual fall things with the cousins. We stopped in Santa Clarita and picked up Sam so she could join us and experience Beaumont for the first time. We went to the pumpkin patch the day we got there. It was hot! The kids had a blast on the huge tiger slide, petting the goats (gag) and being towed around in a wagon by Sam (our nanny). She’s a trooper (and apparently very strong).

The next day we went to Oak Glen to have lunch and get some delicious homemade cider. The kids danced to the band and ran around with Grandma. Of course, we had to head up to the old fashioned candy store and load up. The Harvey sweet tooth runs deep, my friends.

The weekend was topped off by a water fight in the backyard and the kids watering Papa’s garden in their underwear. Ahh, the future blackmailing opportunities abound!

Another highlight this month was a visit from my close friend from high school, Sara and her baby girl, Tyler. How fun that we both have Tylers! A group of us got together while she was here and we all brought our moms and kiddos. Three generations and 7 little ones 5 and under! It was special to all be together again.
